@SheeepGaming One thing I will say is Tokai les pauls I've played have surpassed modern gibson LPs? in build quality and comfort. Some gibson LPs (the modern chambered ones) I've played in stores have been shocking.

@SheeepGaming Not really related to your comment but I think they need to earn their stripes and achieve some level of competence before "advancing" to a professional instrument (however? bear in mind the epi casino has been used by John Lennon and more recently Gary Clark Jr) Personally I played a very beat up japanese strat for 4 years before advancing to my current (gibson) 335 and I think I needed to to truly appreciate such a fine guitar.

The difference to me as a player is: The Gibson's frets are amazing. They are like higher and you really can feel every note. The general feel of the guitar is way better, the moment I picked it up it just felt better (I'm not a gibson fanatic)? The sound is? better and its not just the pups, I kinda feel the wood as I play. So all in all: I recommend you try a high end epi (1000$) and a lower Gibson (1300$) and decide for yourselves. I'm stayin with Gibson though. (got 2 high end epi LPs too)

@vaibzzz123 Of course! Besides, you could swap the pickups later for DiMarzios, EMGs, Seymour Duncans, anything the possibilities are endless. But? one piece of advice, see if you can find a used Gibson, mainly because having a guitar like that at a medium level of playing gives you the "I'm not worthy" feeling, and trust me you won't be able to put it down. That's what happened to me. I mean, you'll fall in love with an Epiphone too, but that feeling seriously gave me a kick to keep playing!

I have an Epiphone? Les Paul Standard Plus Top and I run it through a Marshall - I love it. It has great tone The stock pick ups are great and have great tone. If you're into blues you can definately get a nice bluesy tone from the neck pickup with the tone rolled back. If your looking for more of a classic rock tone it can do that too. Overall it's just an amazing guitar! I often get asked if it's a Gibson if the headstock is not visable. There are some videos on my channel if you want to see.

The pickups are now made by epiphone. They are the epiphone 57 classic and classic plus humbuckers. If you? look at the specs they are the same as the gibson 57 classic and classic plus humbuckers. Epiphones history is so more important than gibsons. Eaither way your not going wrong i just prefer epiphone over gibson and always will.

@EPI6fingers it's only the bottom of the line epiphones that are made of plywood, such as the les paul special II. they sound very trashy, but they are meant for beginners who just want something cheap they can learn on. it seems like some people assume that all epiphones are built the same as these bottom of the line models, which isn't true at? all.

@EPI6fingers I can almost guarantee you that he did not play a stock Epiphone signature on stage or in any recordings. Same goes for Angus Young, he may have them in his collection, but prove it to? me that he used one for ANY recording or at ALL on stage. If anything, it'd be for promotional use, and it'd be a Gibson with an Epiphone logo. Gibson is the legendary guitar company, not Epiphone, even if it is owned by Gibson. Also, mind your spelling before you tell me I have an impossible IQ of 0.

That's the beauty of music. We all? have our own sound and style that's as individual as our own handwriting wheather we like it or not. Ten musicians can play the same song on the same amp with the same axe and end up w/ 10 different sounds. I turned 10 in 1961 and had a front row seat to the birth of today's music. Les Paul topped the charts with How High The Moon the day I was born in June of 51. PERFECT timeing!

hey i gotta question, i have been playing for a while now, like 8 years, and i know this is gonna sound lame but i dont know the notes of the fret board, like ik them? but i have to think about them. ik theory but its hard to apply it when i dont know what notes im playing. is there a good way to learn my fretboard or should i just keep working at it. ik it i just have to think an di wanna get it to the point were i dont have to think.

Me, I kind of like to measure a good "guitar player" by his talent and knowlege of "jazz" riffs and arpeggios. When you can sit-in and jam with a? jazz background musician(s), you know you have made it. It defines the American musician. Thanx for posting and job well done.

dont know why people saying this isnt metalcore style peddling when it clearly is . only thing is his tuning isnt drop c and he doesnt use lots of distortion. tune your guitar to drop c and play this for better understanding? . for the guitarist in the video you would also want to triplet more like D A F C G------9-7--5h7 C 000------------000 just an example

@banjorol I'm usually a pretty lighthearted guy. Yes, it's a lesson and it's taught as blues rock. In my experience, blues rock usually maintains the feeling of blues. Also, I think a lick of a style should? (generally) be taught as it would be performed and heard. How else does someone learn to "perform" a certain riff?

This is a good lesson overall...? great licks and nice ideas as how to develop them. And yet I must agree with the guys who wrote before: blues is not just a pattern of licks/notes: it's made up of strong feelings above all. It's kinda weird to hear a metal guy striving to play the blues 'cause he sounds artificial, despite his good efforts. It's not just how you PLAY it, it's how you FEEL it...

@definealways Yea you're right there man. There is a difference between a slow player playing fast and a fast player playing slow. Faster doesn't mean better.Metal is very aggressive and kinda " showoff" way off playing. Blues is very subtle mostly. But aside from that, Johnny Winter was a VERY VERY fast player, yet he played it fast like a blues player. I think that he learned his stuff slow at first, and normal blues licks.? And then play those same licks, only faster.

SRV went thorugh a whole gig without being outside the pentatonic. incl his bends. 3. Funny how the last note in scalelesson is the only vibrated. 4. Not just for acoustic. Sounds great on a clean electric with a phase shifter or chorus. For color, I add my pinky on the e string in the same fret as? the ring finger and/or add the middle finger on the G string on the fret between the index and ring finger. Good stuff.

@roscopeco2000 - hi, - with this chord shape you want that open A string ringing so the best way to mute that low E string is with the thumb. Just try to get that thumb ever so slightly over the top of the neck - just a tad, just enough to lightly touch that low E string to mute it. Keep on rocking! Take care -David? T

@kenny222 I didn't play for two days over the weekend bc I was busy, it took me an hour to feel comfortable today. Last summer I went on vacation and didn't play for 10 days, it took me two weeks to get comfortable again when I got back. @kenny222? If its any help. The same happened to me, I gave up playing for years and when I came back nothing was right, very frustrating. I realised my fingers needed strengthening and my timing was out, I practised for a couple of hours a day, studied guitar technique with sites like Next Level and after a year I came back stronger. David T is always supportive and helps with useful comments. It takes time commitment and patience but you will get there.

@kenny222 I was in the exact same situation as you a while ago. I stopped playing totally for about 5 years and started up again, everthing sounded? like crap. Still had the knowledge in my head but couldn't get it out on the guitar. The problem i was having was that i could remember what i could do but it didn't match what i was doing when i started again. Just keep going start with simple songs again and you'll get there

Guitarists nowadays spend too much time focusing on leads. The art of developing your rhythms has almost died. Lou is a legend ! The inversions aren't exactly? unimaginable, but when you get down with the guitar and play out what he's shown here, it really helps you bring life to dull compositions, esp. songs which have say 3 chords throughout. I LOVE how he just plays the stuff slow once and? then just gets straight into it! I get SO sick of teachers spending 10 mins explaining an A power chord over a simple 4/4 rhythm for the 1,000th time!.... Other teachers may have even already taught this stuff, but I get so bored I just leave and go watch some videos of cats attacking people... Thanks Lou for not making me sick (and teaching me something very useful!)

Just to expand on my previous post, a 4 DVD series on Metal Guitar would be great to see from you folks at NextLevel. A LOT? of metal bands, both old and new, use the same "galloping" type rhythms in their songs. Iron Maiden used it in "The Trooper", Metallica pretty much used it all the time, and newer bands like Killswitch Engage, Lamb Of God and Trivium basically thrive on it. The problem is, as common as it is now, I've never seen any DVD series go in depth with this style of rhythm guitar!

@800pieds Hey 800pieds, if you're having a problem with switching? between pick playing and tapping, it could be because you're using the index finger of your right hand (as is done in the video) instead of your middle finger. Using your middle finger allows you to tap without having to change to your grip on the pick to tap. :)

@boca10205 Every guitar player experiences this at first. Your fingers are not used to the pressure of playing and have to develop calluses. Once this happens, the pain won't be bad. Also, if your guitar is not set up right, the action or distance between the strings and fret board may be set to high which makes it harded to? play and more painful. Hang in there!

David, Thanks? for putting NLG together (you too Tim!)... I use the NLG DVD set (best money I can remember spending! no fooling). Marty is great teaching songs, But David is outstanding when it comes to teaching HOW to play! Thanks for another great leason.

I have so issues trying to learn to play guitar, the problem is that im not sure if its me or the guitar. The first problem Is that the notes sound awefull if i dont press down on the fret really hard, they make some kind of vibrating sound when i dont press on them hard enough. When i do press hard on the fret im only able to play for 1 minute due to my fingers hearting. Maybe i? just need to get used to the strings or something. Also i tuned my guitar with a chromatic tuner but the strings fee

I finally decided to learn guitar at the age of 34. Never too late I know. Congrats for the effort your are making for all of us beginners out there. I am Greek so congrats for speaking very clearly on the videos. Makes it so easy for me to understand. One question. My ignorance led me to buy a classical guitar instead of an accoustic, so I find it a little hard to make all the chord changes etc. Should I buy an accoustic one? or should I give more effort with the classical?
