Actually, compared to some of the PRS's and ibanez 7 strings on the market, the price point isn't that expensive. I don't mind tuning or intonating my guitar myself, but this? would make for a great studio guitar or jam guitar.

Geez, people sure do fear technology. At least until all their friends have it. The only thing I'm disappointed in is that you can't do custom tunings. Also that it only comes in this style. An acoustic,? classical or Dobro robot would be awesome.

@Niekpas1 Something like that, every practice with guitar are good. To tune the guitar right is not a problem, (even if I can't hear it, on a stage or in a place where a lot of noice), I remember how much I? have to spin if guitar is out of tune and I feel the vibration when I can't hear guitar. I don't know another way to tune it, I don't like pedals which help musicians to tune the guitar, I just know how all 7 notes sounds like, and I feell it, I play all music on my ear. Its not because of having ears or brain, begginers who have enough money to buy this guitar wont have to struggle that much learning the tunes to play songs from the favorite bands, and if you are a live musician you dont need to carry 3 or 4 guitars tuned differently,? you can just tune this up with the robot thing right at the stage, it just makes your life as a musician much easier

Nice job. Nice tone. I bought my? robot LP yesterday. Love it! Perfect tuning... in a few seconds. Pulled the knob, strummed it twice, and bam! .. perfectly tuned in standard tuning. I didn't have to make any adjustments manually to tune .. just play .. with that nice Les Paul sound. :) And no whammy bar to get u out of tune. :)

Or maybe you have to spend so much time pulling knobs, twiddling, waiting and then watching flashing LEDs that you forget to adjust the tone .... trouble is, I assume that has to be done manually. Dammit. So much to remember. Think I'll just adjust this B string and - ah - there I am. Back in tune.

@Glockenator? It rarely takes 30 seconds to tune to Drop D, G or almost any other tuning, other than standard. If it only took 30 seconds, I'd agree with you, but it usually takes me at least 5-10 minutes to get it dead on. This is simply a huge convenience and allows one to switch from playing the Stones to Rage Against the Machine or Hendrix, who I believe tuned down a half step. What's bad about that? I hate tuning. It's a chore. Playing is fun.

@Glockenator why does it matter? tuning a guitar is a pain in the ass and somepeople just don't? like to bother with it. considering when you tune a guitar you have to tune it like 4 times after you tune it to get it exact. on top of that, it enables the player to create a song with more dynamic range of style, they can literally change their tuning at any point in the song. you can go from e flat for an into to standard and move on from there. its a great design. thank you gibson.

If BayouBluesMan had half a clue about wiring or took half a second to think about it he'd realize there is a metal truss rod in all Gibson Les Pauls that carries? the ground signal to the headstock from the body. The strings carry the actual signal which is why they cant be touched while tuning.

@dazedandawake You are definantly right about that, but I see some advantages of this guitar for working musicians, its handy? to have a guitar that quickly tunes itself and has a lot of different sounds to it especially for cover bands . Also it would be handy in the studio when you want your sound and tuning spot on I dont think you would lose the ability to tune your guitar by ear either, as most people probably wouldnt spend 5000$ on their first guitar ey? So its neat but still not for me ;)

oh come on guys quit bitching about the guitar being able to tune itself, its a really cool invention, and just because people have this guitar doesn't? mean that they cant tune a guitar by themselves. its meant to be convenient for the person who is playing the guitar. for example, if your on stage and your out of tune, its a lot easier and quicker to have the guitar tune itself in five seconds rather than you actually taking at least twenty awkward quiet seconds on stage to tune your guitar.

Should we count the bands who play with Jacksons, B.C. Riches, Ibanezes, etc.? Slash had a much better sound with his Mockingbird anyway. Sure, he used a Roman that looked like a Gibson later on, but that was just to make an extra buck. Actually most big shots who "play Gibsons" are actually using a look-alike. Wow man, you really are living on another planet. Let's see how many bands play? with Fender and how many play with Gibson. The only bands that I could think of that play with Fender quite often are Iron Maiden and Deep Purple and they too don't play so often with Fender, but AC/DC, Gn'R, Metallica (usually they use an ESP guitars but they use Gibsons too), Aerosmith, BLS, Greenday, U2, ZZ Top, Foo Fighters, Beatles, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, Lenny Kravitz, The Doors, Led Zeppelin and etc.

This guitar is marketed for the consumer, not the musician... the artist. Moreso its? for Gibson. If you take these unnecessary components out of the 5200.00 guitar, its an $800 guitar. And watch yourself snapping strings much more often if you're constantly retuning onstage w/1 guitar. Have to restring or grab another guitar anyway. Cool techy and all, but just gimmick. Its for the compulsive buyer, not the musician. This is what happens when moving from Kalamazoo to China, Gibson is lost.

Nice... it's pretty fascinating electronics if you're gonna take it apart and reverse engineer it.... Servo motors in the tuners? Really? You would normally find servo motors in disk drives.? Who would have thought of servo motor application in guitars? And of course you need a microprocessor to control the servos. Is it a great guitar? I dunno, I can appreciate the engineering behind it. Just my two cents.

Tuning quickly to alternate tunings onstage isn't easy. Intonation isnt easy. Even without the robot tuning, this is cheaper AND better than a normal Les Paul Studio - it has better runers (locking tuners) and? a better input jack (Neutrik).
